Nintendo: Celebrations, New Games & Big Moves


Nintendo’s September 2025 Direct was packed with major reveals, focusing heavily on the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary and ramping up support for both Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2. 


🔹 What’s coming:

• Super Mario Galaxy & Super Mario Galaxy 2 are being remastered and released on October 2, 2025 for both Switch and Switch 2. 

• New games in the pipeline: Mario Tennis Fever (Feb 2026), Yoshi and the Mysterious Book (Spring 2026) 

• Super Mario Bros. Wonder gets a special Switch 2 Edition, plus new multiplayer-focused DLC (“Meetup in Bellabel Park”). 

• Metroid Prime 4: Beyond finally has a release date: December 4, 2025, for both Switch and Switch 2. 

• Hades II launches September 25 for Switch, Switch 2 and PC. 

• New spin-offs & fresh IPs: Pokémon Pokopia (in Spring 2026), Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, plus DLC updates for Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Donkey Kong Bananza 


🔹 Other notable items:

• Enhancements & upgrades for Switch 2 are being used: some games get better-FPS, UI improvements, new control options. 

• Nintendo is also bringing back some nostalgia: Virtual Boy accessories / support teased. 


PlayStation: Changes, New Titles & What’s Ahead


While Nintendo dominated recent headlines with its Direct, Sony and PlayStation have had key updates that gamers should not ignore. 


🔹 Storage Downgrade on PS5

• A newer revision of the PS5 Digital Edition (CFI-2116) has been spotted overseas, offering 825 GB of internal storage instead of 1 TB, without a price drop. 

• The change has sparked criticism over “shrinkflation” (reducing contents/features while keeping price the same). 


🔹 PS Plus, Free Games & Monthly Line-up

• September’s PS Plus offerings include classics like Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley, and Viewfinder. Great variety spanning relaxing, narrative-driven, and puzzle genres. 

• The Extra & Premium tiers are also rolling out additional titles this month. 


🔹 Upcoming Releases & Rumors

• Several upcoming PS5 exclusive/major games are being watched closely including Ghost of Yōtei (release Oct 2, 2025) 

• Rumors and reports indicate another State of Play presentation may be due soon, possibly revealing more exclusive content or release updates.
